10:15 am - Why do mother-in-laws exist?
|
TO DRIVE ME CRAZY!!! so yesterday was her birthday. I remembered it and left ben a note to call her when he got in and also spent time looking for the perfect "e-birthday card" so that I wouldn't have to call her. Ben didn't call her bc he was tired but he did send her a quick email and she responded with like 2 pages meanwhile she sent me absolutely nothing nor did she even mention that i sent her something to ben. I don't know why i bother. I might as well just never talk to her again. it would save me all the time i waste attempting to be nice, it doesn't matter what i do, she hates me. (ben denies this but only once has she said anything nice about me which doesn't balance out all the mean things she has said) This incident doesn't prove she hates me it just adds to the litany of complaints i have against her and how she never acknowledges that i encourage ben to call her on holidays and everything in fact i practically tell him to call her bc if he doesnt' call her we'll never hear the end of how i stole her son and she needs him closer to her (nevermind that his decision to join the air force was made entirely on his own, before we were even dating) ARG. I can't win and I'm very glad that there is this thing called the atlantic ocean between us so i don't have to deal with her more often. I couldn't sleep last night thinking about her. I really think my worst fear is dealing with her. nothing else bothers me as much. Would you want to walk into a situation where you are always wrong no matter what you do?? i've probably blown this all out of proportion, hell she could send me an email today. if she does do another nice thing directed at me i certainly will post it and admit that i was wrong but...........for now GRRRRRRRR
UPDATE ON THE MOTHER-IN-LAW: Alright so perhaps I was wrong. I did get a e card back from her including a request to call her mom (so shes just plain crazy or inconsistent in her views of me) I also got added to her email list(this has been a topic of discussion, since she didn't want to add me to it before anyways..) I'll just go ahead and admit that i was off the mark on the bday situation and judged the results prematurely. There I acted like a grown up and admitted when i was wrong.

2:22 am - 24 hours in Luxembourg
|
I left Germany for the third time since getting here yesterday to the small country of Luxembourg who's motto translates to something along the lines of "we want to stay what we are" after being there I would agree. Anyways this trip was unplanned other than ben making some reservations the night before we left. It turns out Luxembourg is all of an hour and a half from us, which makes it all the worse we didn't manage to make it out there for our anniversary.
When we checked into our hotel we had to be buzzed into the parking garage so while ben waits in the car i go into the lobby to ask them to buzz us in. In front of me however are 2 guys and 2 girls who want to stay in one room for four ppl. The guy tells them they need to get two rooms since they don't offer any 'family rooms' I think that they are just trying save some cash, little did i know... Ben and i go back to the hotel around 6ish before dinner and one of the girls ended up having the room right next to her and has her door wide open and says hello. ok cool they're friendly. we go in our room veg for a bit head out to find the nightlife and some dinner. when we come back once again her door is open but this time one of the guys is laying face down on the bed ass naked being spanked. We try not to look and get into our room quickly. What was that about?? I have no idea, I wanted to find out, the bottle of wine at dinner gave me the courage, but ben was like i don't want to know. I was thinking hey lets get these ppl to go out drinking with us and figure out what their story is. later that night the girl is walking around the halls half naked...I really don't think i would be comfortable wandering around a hotel like that or leaving my door open for kinkiness.
It was a small city so wandering around worked out pretty well. our guide book seemed to be mistaken for the nightlife area bc we wandered around sat down for some drinks waiting for the night to pick up but all it did was die out. we listened to parts of a free concert that was cheesy but right up my ally bc they played moon river (3 times, the third time made me realize it was time to get out) and somewhere over the rainbow. We were worried we waited too long to get dinner bc most places were starting to close so we started heading back to our hotel. strangely enough it got louder the closer we got to our hotel and things were open so we stopped a the taj mahal and had indian food along with wine service. Having wine service is embarrassing bc they bring the bottle to the table open it for you let you sample it to see if it meets your approval and show you the label and all plus there is this big ice bucket on a stand next to you. I felt like we were being pretentious or something (more like we saw the table next to us with a pitcher of wine and thats what we thought we had ordered) plus all this hooplah was for a bottle of house wine. at the end they gave us a little dish of seeds and sprinkles with two chunks a mint flavored rock sugar ( i guess thats what it was) which i had no idea how i was supposed to go about eating. we continue on down the street toward our hotel, noise picks up, neon lights are flashing. Yep our hotel turned out to be on the busiest red light street of the city. I know it was the busiest bc we decided to walk around and see what was up and down the nearby streets after realizing that a naked neon lady was right outside the window of our room. I was oblivious to the strip clubs during the day, i noticed the sex shop and the cabaret but didn't quite realize that everything on our street was either a strip club, a sex shop or a kebap stand (hence why everything was open well after we tried to go to bed at 2 am. It looked like new orleans, but just on our street and sounded louder) In the morning we were woken up by a marching band.
Our trip consisted of things beyond sex shops and kinky neighbors too. We went to the museum of the history of luxembourg. It was a really cool museum of history with tons of touch screens to show videos of the city and the museum was built over some really old stone building so they left a lot of the old stone exposed with the new construction and some rooms where completely in the original stone arches. Then we hit the modern day exhibit called the 'grand illusion' which was an illustration of the poem 'after the deluge' Suddenly you are wandering through rooms that are completely dark and with a glowing witch's cauldron complete with dry ice, a video of slaughter houses with a sink continuously pouring out fake blood, a mock market showing how commercialism has overtaken the area and then you would walk into the next room and there would be astroturf, woodland creatures and plastic tulips. It was a drastic departure from the first part of the museum but very cool esp after we read the poem (we glossed over it going into the exhibit).
Luxembourg also has some cool casements which we toured this morning. The city is built around a valley that used to be flooded to create a moat for defense. Also in that valley is a labyrinth of casements, an assortment of supply rooms, passages, shooting galleries which run along both sides of the valley, under the valley and under a large part of the city. They used to be about 24 km long but we only got to see a small portion of them as the majority of the casements were destroyed when luxembourg gained its independence and neutrality (my memory may be faulty here so if you actually care about getting the details right look it up) the casements on the one side of the valley are owned by the bank that was formed in an old fort while the remaining casements run under the city and are either used by the city for storage or by private buisineses and residences. I want to have a house with casements, way better than a basement. during wwII luxembourg used the old casements as shelter so the whole city went underground in these casements so there were bathroom stalls built into the casements in the 1940s which are really just the walls of a stall as there never was toilets or anything like that, just piles of shit and piss in little brick stalls.
After that we went to a modern are museum which was...well a little too modern for my tastes and something i really felt i could have thrown together (ya know windex under a glass box. empty glass box with lettering saying the cleaner next to it was used. bizarre art films showing in empty rooms. giant flags made out of newspaper. anyway not really my thing) we grabbed lunch and headed home.
I feel lame for this being like my second entry like I'm saying yes I am having a fabulous time in europe blah blah but really this is the first time ben and i went somewhere just for ourselves and not bc someone's gf or friend came to visit and we had to show them around and even then we only have actually stayed overnight a total of 5 nights since november, one night at a time. Also this was a much needed trip since the past couple weeks have been kinda on the shitty side with ben working swing shift (3-midnight) and me working 730-5 plus last week I had some stomach virus that manifested in ways strangely similar to morning sickness and freaked us out nice and good. Anyways that was my exciting day away. I made up for it by being nice and boring tonight and lounging around with ben doing a favorite relaxing ritual of going to the shoppette buying junk food and magazines and silently reading them cover to cover and going to bed...which is where I now shall be heading.
